A West Orange High School teacher was awarded a $1,000 conference grant to present research.

A West Orange High School chemistry teacher has received a $1,000 Educator Conference Grant from the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).
Dr. Ronald Brandt received the National Educator Conference Grant. The grant, which was founded in 2014, recognizes the contribution of outstanding high school teachers and counselors and enables them to gain new knowledge and skills by attending professional conferences, according to West Orange Public Schools.
“Dr. Brandt’s ability to motivate and excite students about chemistry and engineering is unparalleled,” K-12 Supervisor of Science Stephanie Suriano said. “He is an integral part of the Institute of Mathematics and Science at West Orange High School, a small learning community that fosters students’ interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers. Dr. Brandt is a brilliant man and gifted educator.”

Additionally, he is the founding advisor of the West Orange High School Science National Honor Society and authored the school district’s curriculum for Research Methods Seminar.
“Dedicated educators who exhibit a commitment to excellence and personal growth deserve our highest praise and appreciation,” NSHSS President James W. Lewis said in the release. “It is very gratifying to provide them with meaningful opportunities to enhance their professional development.”
