West Orange ‘Energy Aggregation’ Has Saved $3M Since Launching

West Orange's new contract with Direct Energy Services includes a "100 percent renewable energy content" clause, officials say.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange municipal officials recently announced the township has approved a new contract for the third round of the West Orange Community Energy Aggregation (WOCEA) program.

According to a township news release, in addition to providing cost savings on local residents’ electricity bills, the latest contract also requires that the selected supplier, Direct Energy Services, provide power supply that has “100 percent renewable energy content.”

The WOCEA program was originally launched in 2014 and, under two prior contracts, the first ending in December 2015 and the second ending in December 2017, participating residents saved an estimated $3 million collectively on their electricity bills, town officials said.
