West Orange to Face Blowing Snow, 23 Mile-Per-Hour Wind Gusts Tuesday

West Orange will continue to be impacted by Winter Storm Juno Tuesday. The blizzard dumped less than expected amounts of snow Monday night.

A state of emergency was declared in New Jersey Monday afternoon, but the blizzard dropped less than expected amounts of snow on West Orange Monday night, with only 4 to 6 inches falling in Essex County.

Widespread blowing snow will continue throughout Tuesday afternoon, with 1 to 2 inches of new snow accumulation – a far cry from the 11 inches of snow that was predicted by the National Weather Service Monday night.

There will be a chance of snow accumulation in West Orange before 9 p.m., followed by blowing snow past midnight, the NWS reports. Winds will reach between 13 and 15 miles per hour during the day, and between 11 and 13 miles per hour at night.

Highs will remain in the upper 20s in West Orange during the day, with a low around 14 degrees Tuesday night, the NWS reports. Wind chill values will sink to between zero and 10 degrees, with wind gusts as high as 23 miles per hour.

A Winter Storm Warning will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. The heaviest snowfall occurs Monday night through Tuesday morning, with snow tapering off in the afternoon.

Across the State: Travel Bans Lifted, NJ Transit Back in Action

Travel was been banned on all New Jersey roads as of 11 p.m. Monday, according to an order signed by Col. Joseph Fuentes, superintendent of the State Police. The ban was lifted for vehicles south of 195 shortly after 7 a.m., with many violating the order this morning as residents across NJ. and New York expressed outrage over the decision.

NJ Transit shut down its operations at 8 p.m. Monday, however service is beginning to resume in parts of the state. NJ Transit bus service in South Jersey resumed with limited service shortly before 8 a.m. Bus service in North Jersey is expected to resume by 11 a.m., if not sooner, according to the NJ Transit Twitter. NJ Transit Light Rail services resumed at 7:45 a.m. Service on the River Line and Hudson- Bergen Light Rail is running on the weekend schedule.
