ESSEX COUNTY, NJ – Registration is open for the annual NJCA Heroes for Children 5K Family Fun Run at the South Mountain Recreation Complex in West Orange on Saturday, October 1, 2016. Walkers and runners of all ages and abilities are welcome to come out and help raise awareness about child abuse and neglect in New Jersey. “Everyone is welcome to walk or run on October 1st,” said Pete Boser, NJCA Board President, “Please join us at the NJCA Heroes for Children 5K and Family Fun Run/Walk to support those who investigate abuse, help children heal from abuse, and hold offenders accountable. We are asking the people of New Jersey to come out and help us help child abuse victims become survivors.”
Through registration fees and sponsorships of this event, NJCA raises awareness and funds to support county-based Children’s Advocacy Centers and Multidisciplinary Teams throughout the state. These Children’s Advocacy Centers are child-friendly places that help abused children heal by providing comprehensive and coordinated responses to reports of child abuse. The goal is to make sure every county in the state has an accredited Center because currently only 9 of the 21 counties have one.
