The honor society Escriptus inducted new members and say goodbye to graduating seniors.

An English honor society at West Orange High School recently say goodbye to its graduating seniors and welcomed new members.

Escriptus, the English honor society, held its 2015-16 inductions on May 27, welcoming 10 new students into the honor society, school district officials said. The honor society is described as one of the “most rigorous honor societies” at West Orange High School.

In order for a student to remain in the Escriptus Honor Society, he or she must maintain an ‘A’ average in Honors or Advanced Placement courses for all four years of his or her high school career in language arts and at least a ‘B’ average in all other subjects, according to West Orange Public School officials.

“In addition, a student must be published in three different literary venues (print, media, or online),” according to adviser Tynia Thomassie. “They must attend meetings and participate in Escriptus projects and activities throughout the year, including Poetry Out Loud.”

Graduating senior received their cords and recited a poem written in iambic pentameter in honor of Thomassie, according to officials from West Orange Public Schools. Thomassie is the outgoing adviser of the honor society and will be transferring her role to Molly Wachtel and Mindy Harvat upon her departure, school district officials said.
