West Orange High School Step Team Takes 3rd in National Championship

The West Orange High School boys step team placed among the top three teams in the nation.

The West Orange High School boys step team took home third place in the National Step Championship in Pennsylvania last month.

The West Orange boys and girls step teams traveled to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on May 23 to take part in the National Step Championship hosted by Youth Step, USA, Inc., according to officials from West Orange Public Schools. The two West Orange teams competed against step teams from across the nation, including top teams from Florida, Missouri, Maryland, Illinois, South Carolina and New York.

“The teams had a great time bonding with and watching other teams perform from around the country,” William Farley, boys step team director, said in a release from West Orange Public Schools.

The boys step team placed third in the competition with their performance theme entitled “Mr. President,” school district officials said. As a result of placing third, the team also won $1,000.

The girls step team failed to place, but looks to get back to the National Step Championship next year.
