Taxes in West Orange are likely to increase after the West Orange Board of Education approved a preliminary budget for the 2015-2016 school year.
The Board of Education approved the preliminary budget, which includes a 1.03 percent tax increase, with a 5-0 vote last month, according to a presentation from the West Orange Board of Education. When considering the average home value of $337,916 in West Orange, the increase would break down to an annual school district tax increase of $190.77 or monthly increase of $15.90.
The total tax levy for the 2015-2016 school year will be $131,474,895, with $126,390,356 going to the general fund and $5,084,539 going to the debt service fund, according to West Orange School District. The tax levy for the 2015-2016 school year is an increase of $1,336,954, up from $130,137,941 in 2014-2015.
