UPDATE: OTHER SCHOOLS RECEIVED THREATS
West Orange School Superintendent Hayden Moore issued the following statement about Tuesday's threats:
“Today the district experienced three bomb threats directed at schools within the West Orange School District and we have been advised by our local authorities that there has been a national bomb threat, affecting polling stations across New Jersey. The West Orange Police Department (WOPD) and the Essex County Bomb Squad have responded to Washington Elementary, Gregory Elementary, and Hazel Elementary schools. After thorough inspections, the Essex County team has declared our schools safe.
“The district became aware of the potential bomb threats earlier this morning and while classes had yet to begin, to err on the side of safety, the buildings were evacuated of voters, students, and staff until the buildings were declared safe and the threat deemed not credible.
“The district and school administration are proactively working hand in hand with the West Orange Police Department, and our local authorities have deployed additional patrol vehicles in the vicinity of school polling locations throughout our township of West Orange. For this we are grateful.
“Should you become aware of a threat, you are reminded to contact the West Orange Police Department to ensure appropriate intervention.
“As always, I thank you for your support in our mission as we remain dedicated to the safety and well-being of our students, our staff and our faculty.”
