West Orange Voter Turnout Beats National Estimates

47 percent of registered West Orange voters punched ballots yesterday, 7 percent more than averages across the US.

West Orange voters made a strong showing at the polls Tuesday.

The midterm election, which saw the Republican party reclaim the United States Senate, had a 47 percent voter turnout in West Orange, a little above the national voter turnout estimates of 40 percent.

According to the Essex County Clerk’s official numbers, 17,098 of the township’s 30,561 registered voters* turned out yesterday.

Robert D. Parisi maintained his mayoral seat with 6,652 of West Orange’s 11,850 votes.

New additions to the West Orange Council at Large will be Susan McCartney who earned 5,365 votes, and Victor Cirilo who earned 2,771.

Laura Lab, who ran uncontested, will take a seat on the West Orange Board of Education.
