West Orange's Betancor Makes His Way to Quarters

Two Seton Hall Prep wrestlers make it to quarters as well, as one will compete in wrestlebacks.

West Orange’s heavyweight Emiliano Betancor had a great night at the Atlantic City state championship wrestling tournament on Friday night. Betancor, who had a bye in the preliminary round, defeated Cody Melton of North Burlington 3-1 in the pre-quarterfinals. He will wrestle next on Saturday in the quarterfinal round.

Seton Hall Prep had three wrestlers in action on Friday. Brendan Calas (103) helped lead the way with a victory in the pre-quarterfinals over Michael Russo of St. Peter’s, 3-1. Calas had a bye in the preliminaries. He advances to Saturday’s quarterfinals.

Lou Mascola (135) also advanced to the quarters, defeating Garrett Scrivani of Kitttatinny after a bye.

Also with a bye in the prelims was Eamonn Gaffney (125), who lost to Nick Liguori of Raritan, 5-2. He will advance to Saturday’s wrestlebacks.
