What’s Happening at Local West Orange Synagogues
This Week, The Focus is on Congregation Ahawas Achim Bnai Jacob & David.

There is always something going on here at Congregation Ahawas Achim Bnei Jacob and David (AABJ&D).
Lauren Elise Bier Nursery School
On June 7 we completed another fantastic year at the Lauren Elise Bier Nursery School. We are very proud of our 23 graduates and wish the children and their families much success as they move on to their new schools. We look forward to greeting our Tiny Tots as 2s, our 2s as 3s, and our 3s as 4s in September.
Camp Shemesh at the Lauren Elise Bier Nursery School was off to a great start this past Monday. For the next eight weeks, we have lots of fun in store for our campers. Our exciting multi-sensory program will keep the children happy and busy throughout the day. They are sure to have a happy and memorable camp experience.
Adult Education Summer Offerings
June and July are full of exciting adult education programs. This past Shabbat, we hosted Rabbi Chanoch Waxman as our Scholar in Residence. This past Tuesday night, Rav Herschel Schachter spoke at our synagogue about Jewish Burial. Mrs. Shifra Rabenstein will join us for a special women’s-only program on Shabbat July 16. Finally, on July 18 there will be a meditation workshop. Please visit our website, aabjd.org for details on all of these lectures.
Youth Department
On June 18 we hosted a party in honor of Mrs. Lee Saal, our beloved “story hour hostess” for the past 37 years. Lee Saal has been a mainstay in our shul for generations of our pre-schoolers, and her name has been synonymous with Story Hour. A packed room of friends, shul members, and past and present story hour participants were in attendance to recognize Mrs. Saal’s tremendous contribution to our youth. She was presented with a gift as well as a keepsake album.
Men’s Club
On Wednesday evening, The Men’s Clubs of AABJ&D and Ohr Torah presented “Planning for $ucces$-A Guide to the Financially Perplexed, Hexed, and Distressed.” The seminar, given by David Lewinter, outlined basic techniques that one can use to take control of their finances, help achieve life goals, overcome common financial pitfalls and secure a better financial future.
