Fatal 4-Car Crash On Turnpike In Woodbridge Saturday Morning

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A man was killed early Saturday morning when he was rear-ended in a crash on the NJ Turnpike in Woodbridge, said NJ State Police.

The man killed was Edouard Lougai, 67, a resident of Loch Arbour in Monmouth County.

This was a four-car pile-up crash that occurred at 3:48 a.m. Saturday on the Turnpike south inner roadway at milepost 94.6 in Woodbridge.

Lougai was driving a Chevrolet Malibu south on the Turnpike when he was rear-ended by a Mazda CX-5, said police. This caused both vehicles to veer off the roadway to the right, hit the guardrail and then reenter the Turnpike, becoming disabled in the travel lanes.

A Toyota Sienna stopped near the scene to render aid. A Mercedes-Benz C300, also traveling south, collided with the disabled Chevrolet and the parked Toyota, causing the Toyota to then collide with the disabled Mazda.

Lougai was the only driver who was injured; he died at the crash scene. Nobody else in the four-car crash was injured. As of Monday morning, no criminal charges have been filed in this crash and the crash remains under investigation, said State Police.

"The crash remains under investigation and no additional information is available at this time," said State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron.
