Man Hit, Killed While Fixing Truck On Rt. 9 Bridge Over Raritan Bay

This is the accident that caused traffic delays for hours Wednesday morning on Rt. 9, Rt. 35 and even the Parkway.

SAYREVILLE, NJ — A Jersey City man was killed in the early morning crash Wednesday on the Rt. 9 bridge over Raritan Bay, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone announced Thursday.

The man who was killed as outside his truck, trying to fix it, when he was struck and killed by a car.

What is being described as a fatal accident happened at 4:51 a.m. Wednesday on the northbound side of the Rt. 9 Edison bridge, which carries Rt. 9 over Raritan Bay.

Police say Jamal Ebron, 53, of Jersey City, was driving a tractor trailer truck that had broken down and become disabled in the right lane of traffic. Ebron was outside of the truck attempting to repair it when he was struck by a Hyundai Kona driven by a 33-year-old Old Bridge man.

Ebron was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Hyundai driver was transported to Raritan Bay Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries.
