Teens From Woodbridge, New Brunswick Involved In Menlo Park Mall Brawl

EDISON, NJ — Teens from Fords, Woodbridge, Port Reading, New Brunswick and more were arrested as part of the 300-person disturbance at Menlo Park mall this past weekend.

In total, seven juvenile teens were arrested, said Edison Mayor Sam Joshi and Police Chief Thomas Bryan, who are calling for enhanced security measures at the mall.

It was at 8 p.m. Saturday when police were alerted to approximately 100 young people gathering at the mall. The crowd quickly swelled to roughly 300 teens, and erupted into a brawl. One teen was put into handcuffs for assault on an Edison police officer, ABC 7 reported.

Word of the mall gathering spread rapidly on TikTok. Edison Police required assistance from neighboring towns to restore order.

The seven arrested juveniles came from surrounding communities including Fords, Woodbridge, Hillsborough, New Brunswick, Linden and Port Reading, said Edison officials. Officials reported no weapons were recovered during the incident.

Edison Township officials are now demanding that Simon Properties, the mall's owner, implement several security enhancements:

• Installation of license plate readers throughout the property
• Additional surveillance cameras across the mall
• Significantly increased private security presence, especially during weekends and peak hours
• Consideration of a mandatory adult escort policy for juveniles during certain times
