Woodbridge Planning Board Approves New Rt. 1 Hotel, And More

This will be a new 104-room Cambria Hotel and will be located on the site of the former City Hotel and Star Hotel.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — The Woodbridge Planning Board approved construction of a new hotel to be built on what is currently two vacant lots on Rt. 1 in Avenel.

This will be a new 104-room Cambria Hotel and will be located on the site of the former City Hotel and Star Hotel, said a Woodbridge town spokesman. The Spot, a now-closed bar, also used to be located there.

The hotel was first proposed in this Aug. 11 Planning Board agenda: It will be built on what is currently two vacant lots at 939-943 Rt. 1.

The developer is Jap Real Estate, LLC, represented by Piscataway-based lawyer Aravind Aithal.

The developer proposes to clear any existing structures, as well as trees and brush, that are on those two lots now and construct a new five-story (104 room) hotel. They will also build a parking lot.

The Planning Board previously approved construction of three separate retail/restaurant/pad buildings at Main Street and Mutton Hollow Road by the Woodbridge Wegmans complex. Two of them may be fast-food restaurants or perhaps a Starbucks, as their application has been amended to include drive-through lanes with windows. The developer is R&O Woodbridge Urban Renewal. Finally, a developer wants to remove all existing structures and construct a new 54,113-square-foot warehouse facility at 51 New Brunswick Avenue in Fords. The warehouse will include a 2,400 -square foot office area, vehicle parking area, truck court and loading docks. The developer is Woodmont Industrial NBA Urban Renewal, LLC, represented by Jennifer Mazaway, Esq. This has not been approved yet.
