Woodbridge Sikh Temple Will Be Torn Down, Built Three Stories Bigger
The existing temple at 941 Port Reading Avenue will be knocked down and built three stories bigger. The Zoning Board approved it last week.
WOODBRIDGE, NJ — An existing Sikh temple in the Port Reading section of Woodbridge will be knocked down, and a new three-story, 21,628-square-foot temple will be built in its place.
At their most recent meeting on Aug. 28, the Woodbridge Zoning Board approved plans for the Gurudwara Singh Sabha temple at 941 Port Reading Avenue to be demolished, and a much larger one to be built in its place.
A variance has been granted for the demolition, Woodbridge Township spokesman John Hagerty said.

There is no time-frame yet on when the existing one-story building will be demolished. The Sikh religious group has to apply for a demolition permit before they start, and they have not yet applied, said Hagerty.
Parking will also be increased at that lot, and sidewalk landscaping will be done.

Last year, Gurudwara Singh Sabha provided a rendering of how the new temple will look. It will be a three-story building consisting of a large main prayer hall, with multi-purpose rooms and kitchen space.
Gurudwara Singh Sabha did not return a call for comment.
