Kilo opened in 2017 at 31-27 Ditmars Blvd., its name referencing the type of buffet-style Brazilian restaurant that charges for food by the pound.

Popular dishes included picanha steaks, churrasco plates of mixed meats, and all-important caipirinha cocktails. Reviewers also highlighted Kilo's atmosphere, which included a full bar usually backed by live soccer on TV, as well as a streetside patio.

Kilo changed its model from the buffet style to a more traditional sit-down restaurant in the wake of the pandemic.

Owners did not offer a reason for Kilo's closure, but encouraged customers to visit its "sister restaurant," Favela Grill, on 28th Avenue near 34th Street.

"Thank you and farewell," they wrote.

Thanks to Astoria's large Brazilian population, the neighborhood has no shortage of Brazilian restaurants even after Kilo's departure, with other standouts including Point Brazil on 31st Avenue, Villa Brazil on 34th Avenue, and Copacabana and Rio Market on 36th Avenue.
