Astoria Park's New $13.5M Track And Field Open Ahead Of Schedule
Astoria Park's new, multimillion-dollar track and soccer field are now open to the public, the parks department announced Thursday.
ASTORIA, QUEENS — A new running track and soccer field at Astoria Park opened to the public Thursday, months ahead of schedule, the city's parks department announced.
The $13.5 million synthetic turf field, encircled by the new rubberized track, was due to open in spring 2020, according to the parks department.
The project is the first phase of the park's $34 million makeover, part of an initiative by Mayor Bill de Blasio upgrade one major park in each of the five boroughs, the Astoria Post reported.

Astoria Park's multimillion-dollar renovation, which kicked off in fall 2018, will also include rebuilding Charybdis Playground and adding a spray shower and comfort station, according to the parks department.
The $12.3 million playground project is scheduled to wrap up by March 2021.
