ASTORIA, QUEENS — The Department of Transportation will install three electric vehicle charging hubs in Astoria by 2024.

The installations are part of a set of 10 other charging hubs that will be placed across three boroughs as the state plans to end gas vehicle sales by 2035.

“With the transportation sector serving as a significant source of emissions in the state of New York, we must do what we can to transition off of fossil-fuel-powered transit,” said State Senator Kristen Gonzalez. “I am pleased to see the city moving forward with efforts to facilitate EV ownership by making rapid charging stations more prevalent throughout the five boroughs.”

The public hubs will have about 50 fast-charging plugs. The 150kW chargers will be compatible with all major electric vehicle models, providing up to 90 miles of range for every 10 minutes of charging.

The project was funded by Evolve NY, a New York State and New York Power Authority program.
