An off-duty police sergeant was robbed and slashed in the face by an enraged driver after a fender bender in Astoria early Sunday.
ASTORIA, QUEENS — An off-duty police sergeant was robbed and slashed in the face by an enraged driver after a fender bender in Astoria early Sunday, according to the NYPD and news reports.
NYPD Sergeant Terrance Howard, who works in the anti-crime unit in Brooklyn's 69th Precinct, got into a crash just before 5 a.m. near Steinway Street and 36th Avenue, according to a police spokesperson and a New York Post report.
The man got out of his red Mercedes Benz and slashed Howard in the face, back and arm, then stole his gold necklace, according to police and the New York Daily News.

First responders brought Howard to a nearby hospital to treat the wounds, the NYPD spokesperson said.
Nassau County Police caught up with the attacker's car near Roosevelt, Long Island, but he escaped arrest, sources told the New York Post.
