ASTORIA, QUEENS — An alum of Michelin-starred restaurant Eleven Madison Park and celebrated omakase spot Shuku is behind a Japanese restaurant in Astoria that opened Wednesday.
Kōyō, which means "autumn foliage" in Japanese, is an 18-seat eatery at 37-12 31st Ave. that offers a $135 set menu of sushi omakase at the bar and a $175 set menu of kaiseki-inspired omakase in the dining area.
Kōyō is owner Jay Zheng's replacement for his popular omakase spot Gaijin, which closed after three years in that space, according to Eater New York.
