Construction activity in Hunters Point makes 53 percent of all units completed in Queens since 2017, the study shows.

ASTORIA, QUEENS, NY — Hunters Point is one of the most "apartment-crazed" neighborhoods in the United States, according to a newly-released study.
The study by RentCafe shows the Astoria neighborhood saw 5,423 new apartment units from 2017-2021. Construction activity in Hunters Point makes 53 percent of all units completed in the borough since 2017, the study shows.
The neighborhood has seen almost 22,000 new residents between 2010-2020, city population data shows.

Downtown Los Angeles lead the U.S. with 10,136 new apartments in this time frame. Midtown Atlanta was second, with 5,936 new units.
Of the top 20 fast-developing neighborhoods revealed by the study, most were in "hyper-urban" parts of their respective cities, researchers found — suggesting that bustling, centrally located areas favored by younger residents are most in-demand.
