ASTORIA, QUEENS — Drivers who don’t want to spend up to $10.17 for the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge toll should pay extra attention to the Grand Central Parkway exits during the rest of September, the New York State Department of Transportation is warning drivers.

The exit ramp from westbound Grand Central Parkway to 31 Street in Astoria — which is the last exit before the RFK Bridge toll — will close every morning except for Tuesday’s from midnight to 5:00 a.m. starting Sept. 15 through Sept. 30, weather permitting, the transportation agency said in a news release.

The ramp should reopen as usual at 5:00 a.m. on Oct. 1, the NYSDOT said.

In order to get to Astoria, or avoid an accidental bridge toll, drivers on Grand Central Parkway can instead take Exit 5, and drivers on I-278 can instead take Exit 44, and follow signed detours during this closure.

The closure is part of the NYSDOT’s pavement preservation project across New York City, which aims to repair crumbling roadways.
