Phone Scammers Con 90-Year-Old Astoria Woman Out Of $7.5K: NYPD
One perp pretended to be the woman's son, who said he was in jail for a car crash and needed the money for bail, police said.

ASTORIA, QUEENS -- Two phone scammerse conned a 90-year-old Astoria woman out of $7,500 by posing as her son in need of bail money, police said.
One of the men called the woman Tuesday morning pretending to be her loved one and said he had been arrested after getting into a car crash, police said. He would need money to be bailed out of jail, he told her.
Another man posing as her son's lawyer then got on the line and told the woman he'd need $7,500 to bail him out of jail, authorities said.

One of the men picked up the money from her apartment on 36th Avenue later that afternoon. He was caught on surveillance footage and described to be about 5-foot-10, police said
The woman later learned that her son wasn't involved in a crash, hadn't had any contact with law enforcement and had never tried to contact her, police said.
