Queens Cyclist Killed After Being Struck, Dragged By MTA Bus
The cyclist was dragged down the street for an entire block after the Q18 bus driver hit him, police said.
WOODSIDE, QUEENS — A cyclist died Wednesday night in Queens after a city bus driver slammed into him and dragged him down the street for an entire block, according to police.
Woodside resident Salvador Chairez-Rodriguez was riding along 31st Avenue about 11:15 p.m. when he went through a red light at 51st Street and was struck by a Q18 bus driver as he headed down the street, police said in a news release.
The bus driver kept going along 51st Street, dragging the 50-year-old cyclist all the way to 32nd Avenue, then drove away, according to police.

EMS found Chairez-Rodriguez laying in the road and rushed him to Mount Sinai Queens, where he died.
“This is a terrible tragedy and we are working with the NYPD to investigate," MTA spokesperson Marisa Baldeo said in an emailed statement. "Our thoughts are with our bus operator and the family of the cyclist.”
