Sac's Will Move Its Pizza Restaurant To Kaufman Astoria Studios
Legendary Astoria pizza restaurant Sac's Place is taking over the site of George's Restaurant at Kaufman Astoria Studios in August.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — Legendary Astoria pizza destination Sac's Place is moving to Kaufman Astoria Studios this summer.
Sac's Place will leave its longtime home on Broadway and reopen on August 1 in the space that previously housed George's Restaurant, Sac's co-owner Anthony Sacramone told Patch. The current Sac's location at 25-41 Broadway will be open until July 21.
George's, which was named for the late Kaufman Astoria Studios founder George Kaufman, closed on Memorial Day, according to the restaurant's Facebook page.

"We're restricted here," Sacramone said. "Now we've got the perfect location to have parties and do whatever we want."
The beloved 30-year-old pizza restaurant, which also has a Jackson Heights location, has earned accolades including best restaurant in Astoria. Sacramone and his brother, Domenico — both born and raised in Astoria — opened Sac's in 1989 to pass on their family recipes from the Abruzzo region of Italy.

Sac's is closing the combined Broadway restaurant and slice shop because the building's landlord would only renew the eatery's lease on a month-to-month basis, according to Sacramone. The restaurant's current two-year lease expires this month.
The new Sac's location will have the same menu and serve both lunch and dinner, according to Sacramone, though pizzas won't be available by the slice for the time being. Sac's will be leaving behind its coal oven, but Sacramone said he's confident it won't affect their pizzas.
"With our ingredients, with our pizza, it doesn't matter what oven we use," he said. "Our pizza is made from flour from Italy, San Marzano tomatoes from Italy. We don't use pizza sauce. The mozzarella is fresh mozzarella. That pizza will come out tremendous."
Sac's has catered to Kaufman Astoria Studios for nearly three decades, Sacramone said, expressing excitement about his restaurant's historic new home.
"If those walls could talk, who knows what they could tell you?" Sacramone said. "The place is unbelievable."
