ASTORIA, QUEENS — A teenager was killed while changing a car tire Sunday night when he was struck by an SUV driver, police said.

The driver slammed into the 18-year-old near Hoyt Avenue North and 29th Street about 11:30 p.m., police said.

Emergency responders found the teen lying in the street, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

The 29-year-old driver stayed at the scene and no arrests had been made as of Monday morning, police said.

This is the year's first fatal crash to occur at Hoyt Avenue N and 29th Street, according to Vision Zero data (which goes back to 2009), but at least 9 people have been injured at the intersection in the past five years.
