ASTORIA, QUEENS — Astorians will be down another pharmacy by mid-February.

Walgreens made the "difficult decision" to close its 47-07 Broadway outpost on Feb. 15, a spokesperson confirmed with Patch.

This closure comes as Walgreens shutters locations across Queens due to "dynamics of the local market and changing buying habits of our customers," the spokesperson said.

The pharmacy chain is planning to automatically transfer prescription files to other "nearby" stores (patients will receive a notice about their prescriptions in the mail, the spokesperson said), but some neighbors are disappointed about losing their neighborhood location.

"It's going to be a walk to the next closest pharmacies now," lamented one online. The two closest Walgreens locations, one in Astoria and one in Sunnyside, are each about a mile away from the Broadway storefront.

News of Walgreens' impending closure comes as other pharmacy chains shut down outposts in the neighborhood — last week Rite Aid announced it was closing halving its number of stores in Astoria, Patch reported.
