Bayside Driver Hits, Critically Injures Elderly Pedestrian: NYPD

A 71-year-old woman is in critical condition after a driver hit her and another pedestrian while they crossed the street in Bayside.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A 71-year-old woman is in critical condition after a driver crashed into her and a second pedestrian while they crossed the street in Bayside on Tuesday evening.

A driver in a black SUV was heading south on Springfield Boulevard just before 8 p.m. when he started turning left onto the Horace Harding Expressway and struck two pedestrians crossing the road, police said.

Emergency responders rushed the pedestrians to North Shore University Hospital, where the 71-year-old woman is in critical condition after suffering serious head injuries.

The second pedestrian, an 82-year-old man, is in stable condition, according to police.

It is unclear whether there are any arrests or summonses, a spokesman for the NYPD said Wednesday.
