Excessive airplane noise continues to plague Bayside, residents say. One local says the area hears dozens of flights per hour.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Excessive airplane noise continues to plague Bayside, residents say.
"At some points it sounds like you're trying to crank a lawn mower and it just won't start," Jena Lanzetta, president of the Northwest Bayside Civic Association, told NY1.
"There are some days, weeks, months where we experience anywhere between 30 and 50 flights an hour," she added.

Nearly two dozen members of Congress are calling for the Government Accountability Office to review how the FAA is responding to community noise complaints nationwide.
"The reality is – for those in my district – the constant bombardment of noise is unbearable," U.S. Rep. Grace Meng of Northeast Queens has said.

Airplane noise increases during the summer months, which have more air traffic, officials say.
The increased noise could be more than just unpleasant for Northeast Queens residents: A 2018 Columbia University study found that"extreme" airplane noise could shave up to a year off locals' lives.
The noise first worsened in 2012, when the Federal Aviation Administration changed flight patterns by LaGuardia and JFK Airports, the New York Daily News reported.
U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York have asked Steve Dickson, President Donald Trump's nominee to lead the FAA, to commit to addressing the problem.
A Senate subcommittee has reportedly delayed confirming Dickson to investigate a whistleblower lawsuit against Delta Air Lines, where he was an executive at the time.
