Car Crashes Through Little Neck Storefront

Silver Town Adult Day Care Center, located at 250-21 Northern Blvd., suffered quite the opening day setback.

Less than a week before it was set to open its doors to clients, the Silver Town Adult Day Care Center on Northern Boulevard suffered one hell of a setback Wednesday morning. But the trouble had nothing to do with the usual pre-opening day hubbub—  no, this trouble arrived in the form of a black four-door Nissan that came crashing through center's front window just before 11 a.m.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the window's shattered remains sat in piles on the floor of the front office, the cold autumn air wafting unabated through the building. A desk directly next to the window, though still in a glass-covered disarray, remained intact.

Miraculously, no one was injured, though Solomon Hwang, one of the center's two directors, had been seated at the desk right before before the Nissan found its way into the office, said a center employee present for the accident. Hwang had stood up to use the phone on the desk just a few feet adjacent, as his own phone wasn't slated to be installed for another day or two.

No sooner had Hwang stepped away from his desk when the car came rolling through the window, coming to rest in the place he'd only moments before been sitting, said the employee, who asked not to be identified.

"Someone really saved him, or he would have been pretty badly injured,” the employee said. “It would have been a really, really unfortunate accident.”

The exact circumstances surrounding the accident remain unclear, and calls to the 111th Precinct were not returned as of press time.

According to the employee, the driver was a woman in her 20s, though the car's owner is presumed to be the woman's aunt, who had left her niece in the vehicle to run errands. The car was somehow backed through the window from the street, and though the driver said nothing following the crash, she appeared uninjured, the employee said.

"She was standing, perfectly OK. She ran over to her aunt, and her aunt was very upset," the employee said.

As for the window, the employee said she was unsure how long it would take to fix, nor whether the center's Dec. 5 opening would go on as planned.

A sign advertising open enrollment continues to hang from what remains of the window, though half of it now droops dejectedly toward the glass-covered floor. We're not sure what superstitions surround broken glass, but for Silver Town Adult Day Care Center, we predict things can only get better.
