Francis Lewis Park In Whitestone Will Get $2M Upgrade
Francis Lewis Park in Whitestone is getting $2 million to upgrade its paths and memorial, City Council Member Paul Vallone announced.

WHITESTONE, QUEENS — Francis Lewis Park in Whitestone is getting a $2 million upgrade, City Council Member Paul Vallone announced Tuesday.
The funding will go toward repaving paths and improving the park's entrance and memorial, Vallone said, calling the park "one of northeast Queens’ waterfront gems."
An upgrade to the park's memorial is "long overdue," Kim Cody of the Greater Whitestone Taxpayers Civic Association said.

Francis Lewis, the park's namesake, was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and a former Whitestone resident, according to the city's parks department.
Community leaders will meet this winter to decide on the scope of the project.
