LI Driver Charged For Fatally Striking Pedestrian In Glen Oaks

Police charged a Long Island driver with two misdemeanors for hitting and killing a Queens woman as she crossed the street in Glen Oaks.

GLEN OAKS, QUEENS — Police slapped a Long Island driver with two misdemeanor charges for hitting and killing a pedestrian in Glen Oaks earlier this month, the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad announced Wednesday.

New Hyde Park resident Nirmala Golder, 65, was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care for the Oct. 3 crash by the Queens-Nassau border, the New York Daily News reported.

Golder was on Lakeview Road turning left onto Union Turnpike about 7:15 a.m. when she struck a woman crossing the busy highway, according to the Daily News.

The pedestrian, 34-year-old Astoria resident Kim Ma, suffered a head injury in the crash, the Daily News reported.

EMS rushed Ma to North Shore University Hospital, where she died.

Ma had the right of way at the time of the crash, police later said.

Police gave Golder a desk appearance ticket Wednesday, according to the Daily News. She will appear in court on Oct. 30.
