City Council District 19 Election Results: Paul Vallone Wins
POLLS CLOSED: City Councilman Paul Vallone defended his seat in the city council's 19th district, the New York Times reported.

BAYSIDE, NY – City Councilman Paul Vallone secured his second term representing the city council's 19th district, the New York Times reported.
Vallone won roughly 57 percent of the vote with around 99 percent of the vote counted, according to unofficial results from the New York City Board of Elections. His two competitors, Republican Konstantinos Poulidis and Reform party candidate Paul Graziano, captured around 25 percent and 18 percent of the vote respectively, according to the BOE.
The race was expected to be a tight one between Vallone and Graziano, who faced off in a close race in September's primary elections. But Vallone will continue to represent District 19, which encompasses Auburndale, Bay Terrace, Bayside, Beechhurst, College Point, Douglaston, Flushing, Little Neck, Malba and Whitestone.

Vallone on his campaign website boasts the $40 million funneled into District 19 funds during his first term as councilman, promising to continue improvements to schools, parks and other public entities in the district's neighborhoods.
"I look at what we received four years ago and it was a broken district," Vallone told Patch. "I want to be able to hand off a district that’s well run, the schools are a priority, our parks are refurbished and have people saying, 'This is my community,' again."
