Parent Talk: Talking Tragedy
The most recent disaster in Japan prompts the question, 'What do we tell the kids?'

It's a question every generation's worth of parents have had to grapple with at one point or another: "How do we explain to our children about all the bad things that happen in the world, while at the same time making them feel safe?"
From the assassination of President John F. Kennedy to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 to the images of death and destruction as a result of last week's earthquake in Japan, tragedy is sometimes impossible to ignore — no matter how vigilantly we shelter our children from it.
Whether you were a parent of small children guarding the TV during the weeks and months after Sept. 11, or a new mom or dad looking for a way to explain the events of the last few days in the Far East, let us know of any tips or words of wisdom on how to get the conversation started with the kids.
