'Affordable' East New York Apartments Require $58K Salary: HPD

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — New apartments have hit the city's affordable housing lottery in East New York, but only for those making at least $58,000 a year, records show.

The studio and one-bedroom spots are up for grabs in a new complex on Fountain Avenue near Flatlands Avenue and Old Mill Road, records show. They will stay on the lottery portal until June 12.

All three of the units will go to those making 130 percent of the area median income.

For the studio spots, that means applicants should make at least $58,252 per year. The apartments will cost $1,699 per month, records show.

For the one-bedrooms, rent will be $1,850 and applicants should make at least $63,429 per year.

The Fountain Avenue building includes assigned parking spaces, washer and dryers in units, air-conditioning, a patio or balcony, a virtual doorman and accessible entrances.

It is one of several in Brooklyn currently on the affordable housing lottery.

Other buildings include a Vanderbilt Avenue building, a Lenox Road complex, a massive development in DUMBO, a Park Place building and a senior housing complex in Williamsburg.
