- The John R. Oishei Foundation has named 24 non-profit leaders of colors as the 2022 Karen Lee Spaulding Oishei Fellows. Those chosen as fellows will attend the Rockwood Leadership Institute’s “Art of Leadership” program next month. In the words of Dr. Mark J. Scott, the foundation’s vice president for philanthropic support, the program is focused “on personal as well as professional growth…and builds on the strengths in communities of color, rather than a reliance on traditional, white networks.” Learn more and see a full list of chosen fellows at Niagara Frontier Publications.
- Sabores de mi Tierra, a petite restaurant in downtown Buffalo, is providing the city with authentic Colombian and Cuban food. Owned by Columbian couple William Murcia and Adriana Botina, Sabores has been booming since the keys were handed over to the married duo in June of 2021. Celebrate the end of Hispanic Heritage Month by trying some of this food before the end of September! Read a full review and interview by Pheben Kassahun at WKBW 7.
- Visitation is expanding at local Catholic Health hospitals. Patients can now have two visitors at a time during allotted hours, and birthing mothers are allowed two support people in the room in addition to their doulas or midwives. Read WIVB to find out more.
- Despite the nation’s average gas price increasing, Buffalo saw a 10 cent decrease in average gas price within the past week. The city’s gas prices now average at $3.79 per gallon, which follows the decreasing trend across New York State. Read more at WIVB 4.
- Anthony S. McKegney, a former member of the Buffalo Sabres, has allegedly made multiple phone calls and sent multiple emails to someone with an order of protection against him. He is potentially facing four years in prison and will be sentenced by Buffalo City Court Judge Diane Wray on October 4th. To learn more about the case, visit WKBW 7.
