Here are the top three stories today in Buffalo:
- Buffalo's Common Council passed an ordinance prohibiting parking on bike lanes. The ordinance was sponsored by council members David Rivera, Joseph Golombek, Jr., and Ulysees Wingo, Sr. Rivera believes "this ordinance amendment will add another layer of protection to both drivers and cyclists alike." In Buffalo, many people bike for both leisure as well as their commute, making bike lanes a crucial part of the infrastructure. (WIVB.com - News 4)
- Three workers in the Avantor building on Inducon Drive East were taken to the hospital after a chemical spill. A caller told first responders that approximately 400 gallons of methanol, which is toxic and flammable, was spilled. The other employees were able to get out safely and no one in the nearby area is in danger. (WIVB.com - News 4)
- Two Buffalo men are facing charges for the shooting outside of a Pearl Street restaurant in May. 24-year-old Dalton O. Edge, Jr. and 24-year-old Kyle M. Mickens were arraigned Monday for one count of second-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The district attorney's office said Edge and Mickens fired shots from illegal guns into a moving vehicle, shooting a young woman in the passenger seat and a young man on the other side of the street. - With all this record-setting heat, you may be looking for some new ways to cool off. You can take a day trip or spend the weekend at many waterfront towns around Buffalo. Our favorites are Niagara-on-the-lake and Jamestown because they're so close — around an hour! (Step Out Buffalo)
- Although it's not time to head back to school yet, the kids might be getting bored of all their free time. There are some very cool summer camps available, like a historic crafts & trades camp or this one at the Buffalo Zoo. (Step Out Buffalo)
- Every Tuesday and Thursday, you can head to the Benderson Family Building for some volleyball. The games are open to play from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (JCC Buffalo via Facebook)
