🗞️ Here are the top stories in Buffalo today:

1.) Richard Hy, Buffalo police officer with multiple offenses and allegations, has yet another lawsuit filed against him in state Supreme Court. Curtis Lee Dean, also of Buffalo, filed the lawsuit yesterday in regards to an incident in June 2021. According to Dean, Hy backed his police vehicle into Dean at a stoplight at the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Edward Street, knocking over both Dean and his bike. Richard Hy has notoriously been called “Angry Cop” and has a large online presence.

2.) Expensive repairs and a year’s delay on the Silo City development project. After replacing construction manager due to poor performance, new Miami-based developers suing for $20.25 million “to correct the construction manager's defective, non-conforming work, and to complete the project in conformance with the project's goal of creating quality, affordable, and safe housing for the residents of Buffalo.”

3.) Reformulated Covid-19 vaccines are authorized, for the first time, by the Food and Drug Administration. These vaccines makes officials feel certain they have more control over the upcoming fall wave, anticipated to peak at the start of December. These updated boosters are also better apt to target the current viral strains of Covid-19.

4.) Orlando Oquendo-Torres, 31-year-old Buffalo man, sentenced in state Supreme court over rage-road inspired shooting. Last summer, Oquendo-Torres threatened and made several shots at the victim on Mona Drive in Amherst. The victim only suffered minor injuries from consequentially crashing their car into a tree. Oquendo-Torres is facing 7 years in prison, followed by a 5 years of post-release supervision.

5.) To mark the end of the Seneca One Summer Jam Series, this Sunday will bring Buffalo’s first annual Labor Day Weekend Jazz Festival. The event will feature a diverse variety of jazz, and is free and open to the community. The festival advertises itself as celebratory of the Jazz community, as well as our extended local and downtown communities.
