🗞️ Here are the top stories in Buffalo today:

.) Under justification by their review board, the diocese has reinstated seventeen priests accused of sexual abuse. The review board found the accusations to be “not substantiated” and offered little more explanation. In some cases, the accuser was left out of the court case.

.) To follow up on the Starbucks unionization we discussed earlier this week, twenty Buffalo-area locations saw pickets yesterday. The pickets were in response to claims that at least ten union leaders were fired recently for the union-affiliated activities. Starbucks has commented that these claims are “categorically false.

.) In light of the national bus shortage, back to school yesterday caused Buffalo Public Schools parents concerns about the safety of transportation. Jessica Bauer Walker, president of the Buffalo Public Schools Community Health Worker Parent Association, says ““In Buffalo Public Schools, our kids were already behind and we were dealing with a lot of inequities compared to our suburban counterparts. That’s exacerbated now.” For the time being, missing school or tardiness related to transportation to school is not to be penalized.

.) Today marks the beginning of Beer Week, a 12-day event that includes takeovers, talks, bottle shares, and more. The event was planned by the Buffalo Beer Geeks, a dedicated Facebook group of beer-enthusiasts. Beer Week, in memory of the former Buffalo Beer week, is in celebration of the group’s ten year anniversary.

.) Four homicides occurred in the city over Labor Day weekend, all of which are currently being investigated by the Buffalo police department. This brings the police to a report of eight fatal shootings and two fatal stabbings since August 4th.
