.) Former Buffalo Public Schools student, Dr. Tiffany Nyache, uses a research grant to teach social justice workshops to middle school students of color. In a conversation about video games, these students naturally began to learn about ageism and ableism. "I was granted some money and decided why don't I do this researching and really learning with students of color specifically, so that we can ask very specific questions that matter to them," said Dr. Nyachae. After the conclusion of these summer workshops, Dr. Nyache will publish her findings about how teachers can better their middle school classroom.
.) Nine months ago, the Elmwood Village Starbucks was the first to unionize, and it’s no surprise that this happened in Buffalo. A deep dive into the history of Buffalo as a union town, Workers United headquartering in Rochester, and Spot Coffee laborers successfully unionizing, all join together to explain why Buffalo has become a central location in the modern discussion of unions. It would be no surprise if Western New York continues to be a leader in the unionizing movement.
.) Clean Air Buffalo, a small but mighty organization powered by four people, is in search of volunteers to help with upcoming canvassing. Clean Air Buffalo gives campaign resources to community members already working towards an environmental cause. Sydney Brown, the organization's board chair, explains, "We basically give them skills to help them run a campaign to address the issue that they're dealing with. It's really important because I'd say there's power in the volume of people uniting their voices together."

.) With summer ending, Buffalo’s Parks and Recreation Division announces two indoor pools fall-spring schedule and fees. The Cazenovia Park Pool will be open from 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Lovejoy Pool will be open from 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. on Mondays through Fridays.
.) After successfully closing out the Seneca One summer concert series, the Jazz festival is likely to become a Labor Day tradition in our city. Cool jazz paired with local vendors and food trucks brought out a crowd this past Sunday. The Buffalo Jazz Festival, which was free and is likely to remain that way, should make its return next year if you missed it this past weekend.
