Here are the top stories today in Buffalo:

.) Parents and teachers are both weighing in on how to solve bussing issues, but a proposed change from two to three start times is proving controversial. Sam Radford speaks for the parents, as co-chair for We The Parents Of WNY, explaining that “since the start of the school year, we had a low of 750 kids who were picked up late or not at all, to a high of almost 3,000 kids that were picked up late or not at all.” An issue with the proposal is that “kids can get home 40 minutes later than they do now, have to get up earlier and be outside earlier 20 minutes or 10 minutes earlier when it's dark,” explains Phil Rumore, president of the Buffalo Teachers Federation, and changing start times “is going to affect people's child care.”

.) Vice President Kamala Harris is coming to Buffalo tomorrow to promote the Inflation Reduction Act, a recently passed climate and health care bill. Representative Brian Higgins says of the bill and the visit, “I think we are well positioned, post pandemic, to take advantage of these bills, which are intended, obviously, to boost the economy, diversify the economy of the nation, but particularly in places like Buffalo."

.) A union complaint has been filed against the Getzville Geico location in the aftermath of them encouraging their employees to call the police on unionizing co-workers. Geico United, the forming union, filed a complaint to the National Labor Relations Board, citing the following section of an official company email as against Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act: “If you feel uncomfortable about an uninvited visitor showing up at your home, or if you have experienced any form of intimidation or harassment, you have every right to contact the police.” Causes for the forming union include poor pay, poor benefits, and unideal covid conditions.

.) An assistant property manager in Orchard Park is facing jail time after stealing approximately $53,000 from tenants between August 2019 and April 2021. The woman, fifty year old Mollie B. McCann Poblocki, plead guilty to one count of third-degree grand larceny and was sentenced for 1-3 years in prison and to pay back all the stolen money to the company.

.) Flixbus, a German bus company recently launched in Canada, is adding a Toronto to Buffalo route that will run 6 days a week. Busses will start at as little as $21.99 and have stops in Toronto, St. Catherines, Niagara Falls, ON, Niagara Falls, NY, and the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport. With this new and affordable option to travel between the two cities, Buffalonians should consider this new option for travel to Toronto and might see more Canadian visitors in the region. The bus route starts this week.
