🗞️ Here are the top stories in Buffalo today:
1.) New gun legislation begins today in Western New York. Yesterday was the final day to apply for pistol permits for already existing gun owners. Beginning today, to purchase a gun in Western New York you must be 21 years old, undergo 16 hours of required training, turn over your social media accounts, undergo an in-person interview, and get re-certified every 3 years.

2.) Gates Circle apartment project is officially scrapped after financial pursuit by neighboring Canterbury Woods. Canterbury Woods has officially bought the strip of land next to its facility that will be used as green space instead of the originally planned six-story apartment complex. "It’s been a discussion point between the two parties for several years," Rob Williams, the CEO and President of former landowners, Episcopal Church Home, said. "Timing is everything in any of those discussions, and the time was right over the last several months to make this deal."
To learn more about the deal and associated legalities, read this article at The Buffalo News.
3.) PETA’s new commercial targets Buffalo’s famous chicken wings. The commercial, which ran locally last week on NBC evening news, asks people in a focus-group to name what they associate with the word “chicken,” only to reveal the focus-group being studied by a group of chickens. The tag-line put out by PETA, which stands for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is “Chickens need their wings, you don’t.”
4.) Tifft Nature Preserve to begin work on upgrades, with the goal of making the nature space and hiking trails more accessible to people of all abilities. These upgrades will include broader boardwalks and viewing platforms, and increasing the amount of ramps to accommodate scooters and wheel-chairs.

5.) After many ups and downs the past few years, Tralf Music Hall is officially not reopening. Despite closing the physical venue, the founders of Tralf Music Hall hope to continue booking and organizing shows across Western New York. In their closing statement, they elaborate, "The spirit and legacy of Tralf Music continues with the excellence in entertainment that you've come to expect from the team behind the legendary Buffalo venue. Presenting your favorite Tralf shows and Tralf artists on stages across western New York and beyond."
