🗞️ Here are the top stories in Buffalo today:

.) The $50 million in funding that was promised by the state to address people in the Jefferson community with immediate needs after the Tops mass shooting this spring is unfortunately still delayed. The state said this money was intended to address food needs, utility bills, and home repairs in the surrounding areas. One of the organizations promised money was the African Heritage Food Cooperative, whose founder, Alexander Wright, says he feels confident the money is not coming.

.) Residents of the northern part of the Buffalo waterfront are calling on elected officials to extend the wealth further onto the northern shore. Estimates say that if some of the wealth being put into Canalside and Outer Harbor was brought into parts of the northern shore, 12,000 to 14,000 people would immediately have walking access to the new amenities. Northern District Council Member Joseph Golombeck vocalizes some of these demands, saying "Give us some amenities in the northern part of the city along the waterfront, black rock, riverside, unity island and also long term look at how we can change this neighborhood for the better.”

.) Buffalo lawyer plans to make the city a leader in a national conversation about the “grocery gap” by planning a Food Equity Summit. Inspired by the conversations following the Tops mass shooting, which brought to light food inequities in the food desert of East Buffalo, lawyer Kevin Gaughan hopes the summit will begin to “help residents of America’s inner cities gain equal access to healthy nutrition.” More than 40 local and national experts have been invited to the summit, which is set to occur on October 12th.

.) Paladino is seeking information about primary votes in what might be an effort to challenge his loss. Several county of board elections offices in the 23rd congressional district were issued Freedom of Information Law requests from Paladino last week. While neither Paladino nor his team will comment on why he is seeking that information, it seems to be in preparation for an election challenge.

.) Buffalo police investigate a fatal stabbing in an apparent domestic dispute. Police were called slightly before 3:30 A.M. Sunday morning to Coit Street to find a male and female that had stabbed each other. Both were transported to ECMC, where the female soon died. The male is currently in custody at ECMC while his injuries are being treated.
