- Yesterday, in the early morning hours, an earthquake hit 1.24 miles northeast of West Seneca. The magnitude of 3.8 charts this as the biggest earthquake in the Buffalo region in the past 40 years. Read more at Patch Buffalo.
- Zeneta Everhart, mother of Zaire Goodman who was a survivor of the Tops Massacre last spring, will be joining Senate Majority Leader Chuck Shumer as his guest to President Biden's State of the Union Address. Since the massacre, Everhart has been a dedicated advocate for an assault weapons ban and fighting racial-based violence. Find out more at The Buffalo News.
- Buffalo's Housing Court ordered an emergency demolition for 110 & 118 South Park Ave, Cobblestone district buildings that have been in Buffalo since the Civil War. Many residents are against this proposed demolition and are contrarily in favor of preservation. The city has one week to appeal the Housing Court's decision. Learn more at WKBW 7.
- Six Erie County fire, medical, and rescue squads are receiving funding from the state. The funding sums at $96,585. Find out specifics at Erie News Now.
- Jacobs Institute is partnering with the American Heart Association to host the STEM Goes Red event. Jacobs Institute's educational coordinator, Heather Campbell, said that the event is "to promote that pipeline all the way from elementary school all the way through college, education and careers" for women, who currently remain underrepresented in STEM fields. The American Heart Association is hosting a Go Red luncheon after Campbell's programming to inform these women about the number one killer for woman: heart disease. Learn more at WKBW 7.
