Here are the top three stories today in Buffalo:

  1. A firetruck was taken on a joy ride on Thursday night. According to police, firefighters were responding to an EMS call in the 500 block of Main Street just before midnight when an unknown individual hopped in the driver's seat of engine one and drove off. The truck was recovered just a short while later near Delaware Avenue and Allen Street. According to journalists, the stolen fire engine was smoking when police apprehended a person involved with the incident. (WGRZ.com)
  2. Ahead of the planned reopening of the Tops supermarket, members of Buffalo's Black community are asking that the supermarket stay closed until "real action" is made. Mayor Brown, many council members, and the Tops Friendly Markets President agreed to halt the reopening of the supermarket until changes are made. The community is asking to be involved in the process of rebuilding the area around the Tops supermarket, as well as the supermarket itself. (Buffalo Rising)
  3. There may be more supply in the housing market, but prices are creeping upwards. While the number of homes for sale in the Buffalo Niagara region is eight percent higher than it was a year ago, prices have increased by an average of about 16 percent since then. The median sale price during the first half of this year was $215,000, which is about $30,000 more than it was last year at the same time.
