  1. A downtown food pantry, Food FARMacy, is diminishing food insecurity in Buffalo, specifically for university students. In only their first year, Food FARMacy has helped 690 households and over 1,000 people receive food. Megan Whelan, Associate Dean with the School of Health Professions at D’Youville College speaks fondly of the organization, “Food insecurity is unfortunately common on college campuses and certainly D'Youville University is no different.” To learn more about Food Farmacy and qualifications, visit WKBW 7.
  2. After being investigated by the New York Department of Labor, a Buffalo e-cigarette company was found to owe $191,000 in wages to 93 current and former employees. Magellan Technology/Demand Vapes was investigated after a complaint was filed by a competitor regarding extra pay if an employee works over 10 hours or a split shift. The company said they were unaware of this law, conducted a self-audit, and paid the owed wages. Read more at The Buffalo News.
  3. Brenna Wiggins, a 16-year-old declared missing earlier this week, was reunited with her family yesterday afternoon. The police department had asked for the public’s help in locating Wiggins and report that she was found safe. WKBW 7 has more information.
  4. The City of Buffalo held their first awards ceremony for the mayor's summer youth employment program. This year 1,500 young people participated in the program, which offers summer employment at various places to young people. In addition to offering awards for the first time ever, the city is also investing $1.5 million from the American Rescue Plan funds into the program in hopes to continue inspiring young people to get more involved with their community.   5. Buffalo citizens are preparing to help with Hurricane Ian, the first hurricane to directly hit Florida in over 100 years. These good neighbors are currently fundraising and preparing to be part of the rebuilding teams once the storm has passed through.
