1. As project coordinator of Independent Health Foundation's Good For the Neighborhood Program, Raby Ba is working with 40 community organizations to make Buffalo healthier. The program brings events such as nutrition classes, health screenings, farmers markets, and fitness classes, all of which are available for free, to neighborhoods where healthcare access is otherwise limited. 3. Goodwill of WNY is being portioned $3.6 million of the Build Back America funds. Goodwill plans to dedicate this money to their Goodskills Career Builder Initiative, which helps individuals with work-readiness skills and connecting them with potential employers. Read more at WGRZ 2.
4. In an effort to bring money into their neighborhood, Dr. Uzo Ihenko and Kelechi Chillis-Ihenko are opening a UPS in Buffalo's east side. This father and son duo plans to have the Broadway Avenue location open by the holidays. Not only will this bring more money to the east side economy, but it will also provide a needed service in a neighborhood that unfortunately suffers a lack of businesses. 5. Debate is occurring between long-term west side residents and new property owners hoping to open a microbrewery in a largely residential neighborhood. Residents worry about parking, noise, and "the drunks." The microbrewery plans include outdoor dining and a small community garden, which they are arguing would be good for the neighborhood.
