1. Wednesday’s shooting of a mother by her estranged husband has invoked more criticism of New York State’s bail reform laws by the GOP. "The only thing that would have stopped him was being behind bars in a jail cell," said state Republican Chairman Nicholas A. Langworthy. The brutality of the death, as well as the exposure to three young children, is fueling public debate. Learn more at the Buffalo News.
2. The October 16th deadline is quickly approaching for the new Buffalo Bills stadium, and there is no sign of a final deal. The tentative deal from this past March outlined a plan to use $850 million in public money to help build a new $1.4 billion Buffalo Bills stadium within city limits, near downtown. 3. The Buffalo Art Movement (BAM), which was founded by Roswell Park Cancer Center Doctor, Francisco Hernandez-Ilizaliturri, is becoming an important platform for Western New York artists. BAM is currently the largest contemporary art gallery in the city at 4,000 square feet of space to highlight local artists. They are currently open for solo-exhibit submissions. Learn more at WKBW 7.
4. With the quickening approach of winter, the amount of snow plow drivers is becoming a concern. The State Department of Transportation says that they will be prepared, but community concern rises surrounding the high number of job openings. 5. Road Less Traveled Productions’ Bridge Program is offering a 16-week paid internship for BIPOC artists. The goal of the program is for these young artists of color to meet established local artists and gain industry experience, which will hopefully increase representation in the Buffalo film and theater communities.
