- In the wake of the Tops Mass Shooting, Buffalo leaders and lawmakers across the state are urging Governor Hochul to sign the Grieving Families Act into law. The bill, which has already made it through the senate and the assembly, would change New York’s would allow family members to be compensated for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, loss of education, and even loss of inheritance. It would also allow a close family member to file for a wrongful death, and extend the time they have to file to the court to a year and a half. Learn more at WKBW 7.
- After five teenage girls from WNY fell prey to online sextortion by Florida man Andrew Lynch, Buffalo’s FBI team is visiting local schools to educate on the phenomenon and begin to provide solutions. "The feeling of shame is temporary, and there's help out there," said Eric Schmidt, a Buffalo FBI officer, "There's people out there that are just like you and are doing well, and there are people out there who want to help. - Reagan Development is demolishing and replacing 47 East Amherst Street, the old Amherst Bowling Center, to create a 130-unit apartment complex. The project will cost $26 million. Read more details and see project blueprints at Buffalo Rising.
- Road Less Traveled Theatre’s “Mysterious Circumstances” is a hit. The play is a romantic-comedy drama based on the true story of Sherlock Holmes scholar, Michael Mitnick, who died mysteriously. Director John Huley says the play is “like the weather in Buffalo, if you don't like this particular scene, wait sixty seconds and we have got something new for you." - A boat crash from earlier this week is currently being investigated by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office. The boat had crashed into rocks near roundhouse water intake structure. Three people on the boat suffered no injuries, and the fourth and final person was immediately treated by an EMT. Learn more at WGRZ 2.
